Mon. Packing for Trips (여행 준비)

  1. travel light : 짐을 가볍게 싸고 여행을 하다

     (예문) Some people travel light.

             짐을 가볍게 싸고 여행하는 사람도 있다.

     (예문) Travel light is less tiring.

             짐을 가볍게 싸고 여행을 하면 덜 피곤하다.

     (예문) Do you travel light?

             짐을 가볍게 싸고 여행을 하십니까?

 

  2. take up a lot of space : 공간을 많이 차지하다

     (예문) Clothes can take up a lot of space.

             옷이 공간을 많이 차지할 수 있다.

     (예문) The sofa takes up a lot of space in the living room.

             그 소파는 거실에서 많은 공간을 차지한다.

     (예문) Buy something that won't take up a lot of space.

             공간을 많이 차지하지 않는 것을 사세요.

 

  3. Come in handy : 유용하게 사용되다

     (예문) An extra towel always comes in handy.

             여분의 수건은 항상 유용하게 사용된다.

     (예문) Do you think this will come in handy?

             이것이 유용하게 사용될까?

     (예문) When hiking, exra water can come in handy.

             등산을 할 때 여분의 물은 유용할 수 있다. 

Tue. Going on Trips (여행이 쉬워진 이유) 

  1. less of a bother : 덜 피곤한/ 귀찮은 일

     (예문) Traveling has become less of a bother.

             여행이 더 간편해졌다.

     (예문) It will be less of a bother if you do it sooner.

             미리 하면 덜 귀찮을 거다. 

     (예문) This work is less of a bother when I do it with you. 

             너와 함께 하면 이 일이 덜 피곤해.

 

  2. take half the time: 시간이 절반만 걸리다

     (예문) It only takes half the time to get somewhere in Korea.

             어디든 국내에 있는 목적지까지 가는 데 시간이 절반밖에 걸리지 않는다. 

     (예문) She was so good that it took half the time for her to finish it.

             그녀는 워낙 잘해서 그것을 끝마치는 데 시간이 절반밖에 걸리지 않았다.

     (예문) It takes half the time to cook a meal.

             식사 준비를 하는 데 시간이 절반밖에 걸리지 않는다. 

 

  3. make travel plans : 여행 계획을 세우다

     (예문) We can make travel plans on our cell phones.

             휴대폰으로 여행 계획을 세울 수 있다. 

     (예문) She did searches online to make travel plans.

             그녀는 여행 계획을 세우려고 인터넷 검색을 했다.   

     (예문) How do you usually make travel plans?

             보통 여행 계획은 어떻게 세우나요? 

Wed. Safety Issues on Trips (여행 안전)

  1. take precautions : 예방 조치를 취하다

     (예문) People have to take precautions to be safe.

             사람들은 안전을 위해 예방 조치를 취해야 한다. 

     (예문) He never makes a mistake, because he always takes precautions.

             그는 늘 미리 미리 조심하기 때문에 실수하는 일이 없다.  

     (예문) They always take precautions when they deal with personal problems.

             그들은 개인적인 문제를 다룰 때는 늘 조심한다.   

 

  2. play it safe : 안전하게 행동하다

     (예문) When people are near water, they have to play it safe.

             사람들은 물가에서 안전하게 행동해야 한다.  

     (예문) I want you to play it safe.

             네가 안전하게 하면 좋겠어.

     (예문) You will make fewer mistakes if you play it safe.

             신중하게 행동하면 실수를 적게 할 거야.  

 

  3. keep an eye on : ~을 예의 주시하다

     (예문) Parents must always keep an eye on their children.

             부모들은 늘 아이들을 예의 주시해야 한다.   

     (예문) If you don't trust him, you should keep an eye on him.

             그를 못 믿겠으며, 유심히 지켜봐.  

     (예문) I kept an eye on my son at the poolside.  

             나는 수영장 옆에서 아들을 계속 지켜보았다.  

Thu. Travel Locations (여행지)

  1. on vacation : 휴가로

     (예문) Some people go there on vacation.

             어떤 사람들은 그곳으로 휴가를 간다. 

     (예문) I don't want to work while I'm on vacation.

             나는 휴가 중에는 일하고 싶지 않아.  

     (예문) She turns her phone off while she is on vacation.

             그녀는 휴가 기간 동안은 휴대폰을 꺼 둔다.  

 

  2. on business : 업무로

     (예문) Some people go there on business.

             어떤 사람들은 그곳으로 출장을 간다.  

     (예문) He travels very often on business.

             그는 출장을 자주 간다.  

     (예문) I have only ever been there on business. 

             나는 그곳을 출장으로만 가 봤다.  

 

  3. be very familiar with : ~에 매우 친숙하다

     (예문) Koreans are very familiar with Japanese food. 

             한국 사람은 일본 음식이 아주 친숙하다.  

     (예문) I am surprised that you are very familiar with Korean culture.

             저는 당신이 한국 문화에 정말 익숙해 보여서 놀랐습니다.  

     (예문) We are now very familiar with 3D movies.

             우리는 이제 3D 영화가 매우 친숙하다.  

Fri. Difficulties on Trips (여행 중 어려움)

  1. language barrier : 언어 장벽

     (예문) The language barrier is a problem when traveling.

             여행 중에는 언어 장벽이 문제 중 하나다.

     (예문) She couldn't make friends because of the language barrier.

             그녀는 언어 장벽 때문에 친구들을 사귀지 못했다.  

     (예문) It took a long time to get over the language barrier.

             나는 언어 장벽을 극복하는 데 오래 걸렸다.  

 

  2. have a hard time -ing : ~하는 데 어려움을 겪다

     (예문) I had a hard time communicating.

             나는 의사소통을 하는 데 어려움을 느꼈다.  

     (예문) I had a hard time staying awake.

             나는 깨어 있기가 힘들었다.   

     (예문) You must have had a hard time getting here.

             여기까지 오는 데 힘들었나 보구나.

 

  3. enjoy oneself to the fullest : 맘껏 즐기다

     (예문) I couldn't enjoy myself to the fullest.

             나는 맘껏 즐기지 못했다.  

     (예문) She was shy at first, but soon she enjoyed herself to the fullest.

             그녀는 처음에는 수줍어했지만, 곧 맘껏 즐기게 됐다.  

     (예문) They did some homework to enjoy themselves to the fullest. 

             그들은 맘껏 즐기기 위해 미리 이것저것 알아봤다.
