Mon. Computer Problems (컴퓨터가 고장 난  경험)

  1. give someone pointers : ~에게 조언을 주다

     (예문) He gave me a few pointers.

             그는 나에게 몇 가지 조언을 해 줬다.

     (예문) She gave him a few pointers based on her own experience.

             그녀는 본인의 경험을 바탕으로 그에게 몇 가지 조언을 해 줬다.

     (예문) I was able to do it after he gave me some pointers.

             나는 그에게 힌트를 얻어 그것을 할 수 있었다.

 

  2. run (some) diagnostics : 검사를 하다, 진단하다

     (예문) The technician ran some diagnostics.

             수리 기사가 검사를 했다.

     (예문) After she ran the diagnostics, she suggested a solution.

             그녀는 검사를 하고 해결책을 제안했다.

     (예문) Take your phone to the service center to run some diagnostics.

             휴대전화를 서비스 셑너로 가지고 가서 검사를 해 보세요.

 

  3. pay top dollar : 큰돈을 내다

     (예문) I was forced to pay top dollar.

             나는 큰돈을 지불해야만 했다.

     (예문) We paid top dollar, but we didn't regret it.

             우리는 큰돈을 썼지만, 후회하지 않았다.

     (예문) He paid top dollar for the car he bought.

             그는 차를 사는데 큰돈을 썼다.

Tue. Investment Loss (투자 손실을 본 경험) 

  1. be big on : ~에 심취하다, ~에 푹 빠지다

     (예문) I was big on the stock market.

             나는 주식에 빠졌었다.

     (예문) His friends were very big on the new TV show.

             그의 친구들은 새TV 프로그램에 푹 빠져 있었다.

     (예문) I'm not big on sprots, but I like golf.

             나는 스포츠를 크게 좋아하지는 않지만 골프는 즐긴다.

 

  2. earn a return on investment : 투자 수익을 내다

     (예문) I couldn't earn a return on my investment.

             나는 투자 수익을 낼 수 없었다.

     (예문) We were not able to earn a return on our investment.

             우리는 투자 수익을 내지 못했다.

     (예문) It will take a lot of work to earn a return on that investment.

             그 투자에서 수익을 내려면 일을 많이 해야 할 것이다.

 

  3. get side-tracked : 정신이 팔리다, 집중이 흐트러지다

     (예문) I kept getting side-tracked at work.

             나는 근무 중에 자꾸 정신이 다른 곳에 갔다.

     (예문) She's so focused that she never gets side-tracked.

             그녀는 워낙 집중력이 좋아서 정신이 팔리는 일이 없어.

     (예문) It's easy to get side-tracked if you keep checking your phone.

             전화기를 계속 확인하면 집중력이 흐트러질 수 밖에 없다.

Wed. Bad Service (서비스 불만족 경험)

  1. have a bad attitude : 태도가 불량하다

     (예문) Our waiter had a bad attitude.

             우리 웨이터는 태도가 불량했다.

     (예문) He does not have a bad attitude.

             그는 태도가 불량하지 않아.

     (예문) Your can't succeed if you have a bad attitude.

             불량한 태도로는 성공할 수 없어.

 

  2. snap at : ~에게 신경질을 내다

     (예문) The waiter snapped at me.

             웨이터가 내게 신경질을 냈다.

     (예문) He was so annoying that I finally snapped at him.

             그가 워낙 신경에 거슬려서 내가 결국 신경질을 냈다.

     (예문) Even if you're mad, you shouldn't snap at your parents.

             아무리 화가 나도 부모님께 신경질을 내면 안돼.

 

  3. throw a tantrum : 큰소리로 화를 내다, 떼를 쓰다

     (예문) I almost threw a tantrum in the restaurant.

             나는 음식점에서 큰소리로 화를 낼 뻔했다.

     (예문) She was so upset, she wanted to throw a tantrum.

             그녀는 너무 속상해서 큰소리로 화를 내고 싶었다.

     (예문) You'll only look foolish if you throw a tantrum.

             떼를 써 봤자 어리석게 보일 뿐일 것이다.

Thu. Mountain Trip (산에 놀러 간 경험)

  1. whenever one gets the chance : 기회가 될 때마다

     (예문) I go hiking whenever I get the chance.

             나는 기회가 될 때마다 등산을 한다.

     (예문) We like to travel whenever we get the chance.

             우리는 기회가 될 때마다 여행을 즐긴다.

     (예문) Whenever you get the chance, drink some water.

             기회가 될 때마다 물을 마셔.

 

  2. a sight to see : 볼만한 광경

     (예문) The colorful leaves are a sight to see.

             알록달록한 단풍은 볼만한 광경이다.

     (예문) Ancient palaces in Korea are a sight to see.

             한국의 고궁은 볼만한 광경이다.

     (예문) The view from the mountaintop is a sight to see.

             그 산 정상에서의 경치는 볼만한 광경이다.

 

  3. be worth the trouble : 고생할 가치가 있다

     (예문) Going to the mountains was worth the trouble.

             고생해서 산에 간 보람이 있었다.

     (예문) It's a difficult recips, but it is worth the trouble.

             조리법이 어렵지만, 그만한 가치가 있다.

     (예문) We gave our all, but it was not worth the trouble.

             우리는 모든 것을 쏟아부었는데, 고생한 보람이 없었다.

Fri. Grocery Shopping (장 보러 간 경험)

  1. fresh produce : 신선한 청과물/농산물

     (예문) We picked up a lot of fresh produce.

             우리는 신선한 농산물을 넉넉하게 샀다.

     (예문) She brought fresh produce to eat with the meat.

             그녀는 고기에 곁들일 신선한 야채를 챙겨 왔다.

     (예문) The supermarket had no more fresh produce.

             그 마트에는 신선한 농산물이 더 이상 없었다.

 

  2. keep an emergency stash : 비상용을 구비해 두다

     (예문) I always keep an emergency stash of instant noodles.

             나는 항상 비상용 라면을 구비해 둔다.

     (예문) She keeps an emergency stash of snacks in her desk.

             그녀는 책상에 비상용 군것질거리를 챙겨 둔다.

     (예문) Where do you keep your emergency stash?

             비상용으로 챙겨 놓은 것 어디 있어?

 

  3. buy-one-get-one-free : 원플러스원, 하나 사면 하나가 공짜

     (예문) The store had several buy-one-get-one-free events.

             그 상점은 다양한 원플러스원 행사를 하고 있었다.

     (예문) The convenience stroe almost always has a buy-one-get-one-free event.

             그 편의점에서는 거의 항상 원플러스원 행사를 한다.

     (예문) Even with the buy-one-get-one-free sale, it was still expensive.

             원플러스원 할인 행사를 하고 있었는데도 그것은 여전히 비쌌다.
